Hi! I am Azka Javaid. I recently graduated from Amherst College and currently work as a Data Scientist at IBM within Watson Health Oncology. At Watson Health, I have developed an acute understanding of the health domain, business intuition and client needs. This understanding has allowed me to better communicate my analysis to clients via demos and real world evidence. My degree in Computer Science and Statistics from Amherst College has molded my interest in R development, statistical analysis, interactive data visualization via Shiny applications and data science education via blogging. This work is motivated by my overarching goal to foster meaningful engagement and dialogue with technology. In addition to data science education, I am passionate about writing, public speaking, entrepreneurship and intersection of business and technology.

I have worked extensively on near real-time interactive data visualizations via web APIs and Shiny applications. One of my applications uses the Twitter API to assess a user's Twitter use with sentiment, text, network and geographical analysis and across time and platform metrics: Shiny, Github. My second application uses the Eventbrite, Google, Meetup and Yelp APIs to retrieve event, food and vendor information for a geographic location in one centralized application: Shiny, Github. R-conflicts Shiny application uses the R document API to retrieve function name conflicts (functions with same name) between two packages in addition to retrieving package metrics and functions associated with that package: Shiny, Github.

In addition to my work with Shiny applications, this blog is meant to provide an accessible data science education platform for beginner and advanced R users covering topics like data modeling, data wrangling, machine learning, text analysis and data visualization with brief examples and code snippets.

This blog and web applications visualize near real-time data via web APIs, contributing to a dynamic understanding of data science and data visualization and strive to develop an organized and systemic understanding of our interaction with social media and technological platforms like Twitter, Eventbrite, Meetup and Yelp. My business intuition coupled with my real world experience with software, R development fuels my goal of fostering fruitful user interactions with technology and data science education.
